A PMA (Penanaman Modal Asing) is a foreign-owned Indonesian company that can hold leasehold property in its name. It's the cleanest legal path for foreign investors but has setup costs and annual compliance overhead.
A nominee structure uses an Indonesian individual as the legal titleholder on the foreign buyer's behalf. It is faster and cheaper but legally precarious — Indonesian courts have invalidated nominee arrangements in past disputes. We recommend PMA for any investment over $300K.
